Inside the Engagement

Background

Crystal Art Gallery describes itself as one of the nation’s top suppliers of home decor, including framed art, mirrors, and wall decor. The company is based in Los Angeles, California, and has 51 to 200 employees. Marlon Asuncion, its IT Manager, submitted the review.

Crystal Art Gallery found CAL IT Group through a referral. Its reasons for choosing CAL IT Group included a nearby location, good value for cost, and the referral itself. The engagement began in September 2019 and is ongoing.

The Challenge

Crystal Art Gallery partnered with CAL IT Group to co-manage its IT alongside its internal IT team. The company set four goals: cybersecurity, cleaning up its IT infrastructure, managing and maintaining that infrastructure, and backup and disaster recovery.

The Solution

A team of six to 10 CAL IT Group employees supports the company. The engagement began with a discovery process, a formal proposal for managed IT and security services, and a conference call to review the proposal before it was executed.

During onboarding, CAL IT Group:

  • Performed a detailed IT health check and risk analysis
  • Deployed monitoring and management tools
  • Deployed a security suite with anti-virus, DNS filtering, email hygiene, security awareness training, and dark web scanning through its managed cybersecurity services
  • Deployed managed backup and disaster recovery services
  • Developed an internal IT runbook for CAL IT Group staff
  • Developed an IT roadmap with enhancements to mitigate the risks found during the IT health check and security risk analysis
  • Developed change management and IT user policies

Managed IT and security services went live on day 30. After go-live, CAL IT Group developed a timeline and budget for the roadmap enhancements and holds monthly and quarterly IT strategy meetings with the company. Communication takes place through in-person meetings, virtual meetings, and email or messaging apps.

Results & Feedback

Crystal Art Gallery reports these outcomes:

  • Faster and more consistent server and network performance
  • A backup and disaster recovery that was performed and fully recovered within half a day
  • Upper management no longer checking in or calling, because they are more confident the company’s data is safe and secure
  • Higher employee output on daily workloads
  • Fewer calls for support

The client says CAL IT Group assessed its IT infrastructure, prepared a comprehensive roadmap, and delivered in a timely manner, meeting all of its needs. With CAL IT Group in place, the internal IT team can focus more on streamlining business operations. The client also notes that the team stays present whether or not issues come up, even as some work remains ongoing.

The client says all work is delivered with quality and every timeline has been met, and that it would strongly recommend CAL IT Group as a managed service partner. Asked about areas for improvement, the client said there were none at this time.
