The reviewer is an executive and department VP at a safe manufacturing and service company based in San Bernardino, California, with 201 to 500 employees.
CAL IT Group was already supporting the company when the reviewer joined around June 2022, so the reviewer does not know how the relationship began. The reviewer believes CAL IT Group had been working with the company for several years before that.
Before joining, the reviewer worked at large companies and assessed many IT providers during mergers and acquisitions. Those assessments usually left a pessimistic impression. In the reviewer’s experience, managed IT service companies tended to focus on sales, lacked engineering skills, and did not handle cybersecurity well.
The company does not have an in-house IT department, so it relies on CAL IT Group as its outsourced IT department through managed IT services.
Based on past experience with other providers, the reviewer joined the company planning to work out how to replace CAL IT Group with internal staff. The first step was an initial assessment of CAL IT Group, using the same list of technical, cybersecurity, and asset management questions the reviewer had used to evaluate other IT companies.
CAL IT Group provides IT support and managed services, and all of the company’s IT needs go through the team. The work includes additions and changes to IT systems, IT project support, and software and hardware purchases and implementations.
CAL IT Group has delivered several IT and cybersecurity projects, including installing a new wireless network and upgrading the firewall, network switch, ISP, and phone system, supported by its system and network engineering work. At the time of the review, the team was implementing a managed detection and response (MDR) product. CAL IT Group also consults on Microsoft Office 365, unified communications as a service (UCaaS), and contact center as a service (CCaaS) through its business communications services.
The reviewer works mainly with three people from CAL IT Group: a technical support contact and both business partners, who delegate work to their teams. The company also has access to CAL IT Group’s full help desk. According to the reviewer, the team meets deadlines, stays on budget, and is very good at following up on tasks. Communication takes place by email and Microsoft Teams.
In the seven months between joining the company and the review, the reviewer saw CAL IT Group help make many strategic changes and improvements.
The client reports that the wireless network project dramatically improved network throughput and access. Internet throughput went from 200 Mbps to over one Gbps, and the company saved money in the process. The reviewer says CAL IT Group’s work has clearly met expectations.
